The Midway Neighborhood History in Photos

One of the most exciting things about our new flagship health care center and administrative headquarters is its proximity to the light rail line.  Located in the Midway area (between Minneapolis and St. Paul) and just a few blocks from the future Raymond Avenue Light Rail stop, our reproductive health care and education services will be more accessible than ever.

Planned Parenthood has been part of Minnesota’s health care infrastructure for the past 82 years and we’re excited to be moving to the Midway. While doing some research on our future neighborhood, we discovered a batch of great photos from the 1940s and 50s just blocks from where our new building will be constructed.

Finally, here’s a picture of the intersection of University and Raymond, where one of the central corridor light rail stops is slated for construction. Here we are, in the process of building a light trail lines to connect our downtowns, but it wasn’t that long ago that Minneapolis and St. Paul had a vast network of  street car lines—including a line going right down University Past Raymond Avenue. It’s interesting to see how history repeats itself. (Courtesy of MHS, Minneapolis Star Tribune, 1948)
